Day 10 in the EuroVelo6 ride across Europe. Today's juant took us from Demigny to Saint-Jean-de-Losne a total of 58 miles. We are now on the east side of France with only three more days until we enter Germany. Weather conditions were perfect. After an all day rain yesterday where we took time off the bike, the temperature started out in the low 60's and only rose to the low 80"s. No humidity and a nice tail wind. The first 20 mlles were like the Fast and Furius as we s...ped along a canal, the river Saone and through small villages only stopping to take the occasionaly picture. Road conditions perfect until the last 10 miles. Our morning coffee break and lunch were at qauint little eateries that only added to the French experience. Our lunch stop was in the town of Verdun. I thought perhaps it was the site of the famous WWI Battle of Verdun. Ahh, but upon later investigation it was determined it was not at this sight. Nevertheless, it was a charming little town.
During the afternoon, at a spot we were taking pictures, I commented on how great the roads were. Stupid!! Soon after, we hit a stretch of trail that had rocks mixed with gravel (dangerous) and when we thought it couldn't get any worse a trail of dirt and grass (more dangerous). But, those things are what makes this an adventure. Many parts of today's reminded me of my rides in central Illinois. On one side was a field of corn and on the other a soy beans and wheat. (see pic) All in all a great day to ride a bicycle across Europe.
