Day 12 of EuroVelo6 ride across Europe. Today was a rest day from the biking. We are staying in the city of Besancon France. It is an amazing city located down the hill from Besancon Citadel. After an invigerating breakfast we took a bus to the Citadel. The history of the area goes back to Julius Caesar. It covers 27 acres, contains a zoo, art museum and a museum showing the role of French resistance to the Nazis during WWII. It is located on Mount Saint-Etinne. In ancient Gallo-Roman times it was used as an acropolis and the construction of the actual citadel began in 1668 by the Spaniards. That is probably enough so as to not bore my followers so for more info, Google is an excellent source.    Obviously, we could have spent a couple days touring the place but we still have many things to catch up on especially cleaning my bike.
