Day 19 of the EuroVelo6 ride across Europe. Today, after five days of riding and nearly 800 miles since we started, we took another rest day in Ulm Germany. Ulm has a rich and varied history and is probably most famous for the Ulm Minster. While it looks like a prototypical cathedral, it can't be considered one because it never had a bishop occupy it. Without going into to much detail, building started in 1377 and was finally completed in 1890. Now that's a long time but it certainly was worth it. Currently it is the largest church in the world until Spain finishes construction on Sagrada Famila. It has the tallest steeple in the world with 768 steps to the top. And yes, people are allowed climb it. In order to continue my biking, I passed on that particular task. Of all the cathedrals, abbeys, castles, citadels and town churches, Ulm Minster is, by far, the most magnificent one we have seen to date. I'll let my pics tell the rest of the story. I should mention the Ulm is the birthplace of Albert Einstein.
Back on the bike tomorrow.
