Day 8 of the EuroVelo6 ride across Europe. Today we rode from Decize to Paray-le-Monial France, a total of 63 miles. We are half way through France in the Burgundy area. So far, haven't seen any wineries.
The concept of yin/yang played into today's ride. Yesterday I reported the temperature was 101 degrees. I was wrong. It, according to one of our riders Garmin's, said the temperature hit 107. Now that's hot. Today was totally different. We started the ride in the high 60's and it eventually reached the low 80's. Now that's great riding weather. In addition the hills from yesterday disappeared and, except for a few spots, it was relatively flat. The strong headwind from yesterday turned around and was at our backs. It was the best day of riding so far. After lunch, the next 20 miles were alongside a canal which made the miles fly by. I should mention that during my many rides around the country side in Tazewell county many obstacles slowed me down. Tractors, combines, semis etc. impeded my progress. But today as we traversed the farm country in the Burgundy region of France, we were literally stop by a herd of cattle. Yes, I've heard of cattle, but that's another story. We could not continue until the herders turned them into a pasture. See pic. Another distinction I noticed is the farm fields go on mile after mile without seeing a farmhouse, barn or other outbuildings like those in the U.S. I may have to research why that is.
