Day 2 of the Eurovelo6 bike ride. Leaving Champtoceaus we traversed to Les-Ponts-de-Ce. a total of 51 miles. Today's adventure could be summed in one word "Wow" That expression covers the road conditions, the views of French countryside, the weather and the place we are staying for the night.
Road conditions-The first 8 miles set the standard for the day. A quick downhill followed by loose gravel followed by loose rocks followed by cobblestone followed by bumpy road interspersed with a few smooth asphalt set the tone for the day. Tough road conditions.  But that's what makes it an adventure.
Again, the wow factor included the views of the French countryside. Following the Loire valley displayed those images we often see in travel magazines and programs. Quite impressive.
There is a heat wave in this part of France at the moment and the temperature rose to 95 degrees with one Garmin showing over 100 degrees. Mad Dogs and Englishmen notwithstanding. We did enjoy the many breaks and one in particular. After a grueling incline while trying to get traction in rock, keeping my bike in granny gear the entire time, avoiding two bikers coming down the the same path and finally reaching the top to compliments from my traveling companions Jay and Tom I encountered a sight that was very appropriate. At the top of the incline was a 15 foot stature of Jesus on the cross. I could only imagine why it was placed there but I needed a rest and the entire time He was keeping an eye on me.
So, the wow factor displayed by the hotel we are staying is it in an old French chateau. The pictures say it all. So, as I am extremely weary that will end the post.
